Six Habits To Help You Feel More Financially Abundant

In this episode of the Becoming You podcast, I go in-depth into the six habits you can incorporate into your life to develop your money mindset.

My own money mindset still has a long way to go, but I am proud to say that I have come a long way from where I used to be.

What is a “money mindset”, exactly?

A “mindset” is a set of beliefs that influence your relationship with some area. So, you have a mindset around money, a mindset around health, and a mindset around relationships, to give a few examples.

Your mindset determines your thoughts, which influence your actions, which drive your results. So, if you want your results to change, you have to start with changing your mindset.

With regard to your money mindset, reflect on your relationship with finances. What’s worth noting is that our money mindset is not our own, but the result of the lessons that our parents taught us about money.

Habit #1: Bless Your Bills as You Pay Them

Even if we can afford to pay the bills, many of us feel a certain tightening in our body whenever the time comes to make those payments, whether these are credit card bills, student loan payments, or mortgage payments.

We need to shift from a scarcity to an abundant mindset. And we can do this by blessing our bills.

Habit #2: Give a little extra.

I’ve often said “yes” at the checkout aisle when the cashier asked me if I wanted to round-up the total to contribute a dollar to a charity.

But for a long time, that “yes” was usually nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction. In fact, if I could catch myself before speaking, I probably would have answered “no” most of the time.

I’ve since decided to create a new habit of saying “yes” to giving, this time from a place of abundance instead of a place of lack.

Habit #3: Help your body feel safe when you find yourself constricted around money.

Slow down and tune into your body whenever negativity hits. When you feel angry, try to pinpoint how your body is feeling that anger. Do the same whenever you feel that twinge of discomfort when paying a bill.

Habit #4: Splurge on items that you truly desire instead of buying items just because they’re on sale.

This tip may be a bit unusual to some, but it’s personally been a game-changer for me.

Splurge on items and experiences that you truly desire rather than always trying to cut corners and save money through deals.

Habit #5: Recycle, donate, or trash things that don’t make you feel abundant.

Something that stuck with me from one podcast I listened to was the question, “If you’re a millionaire, would you have holes in your underwear?”

Replace those dying plants, chipped bowls and plates, and worn-out clothes. Don’t settle for broken or subpar things just because you think that you have to save money.

Clear out the clutter to allow energy to flow into your life.

Habit #6: Learn to affirm.

There’s always more of where that came from. If you spend a dollar, you can always find more ways to make another dollar. You might not know how to at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you won’t figure it out at some point in the future.

When you spend money, and fear sets in, remind yourself that there is always more where that came from.
