Healthcare digitisation isn't just a technology challenge, it's a matter of governance, patient safety, and operational survival. In Episode 5 of Digitise This, host Steve Chad is joined by Ola Cafferty from Data Scan Document Services and Paul Day from FileStream, to explore what large-scale healthcare document digitisation really looks like on the ground.

From a regional hospital pilot processing 5,000 documents a day across a closed-loop network, to the complexities of scanning ECG traces, hospital charts, and records spanning nine decades, this episode goes beyond the theory and into the operational realities of one of the most sensitive and high-stakes environments imaginable. Together, Ola and Paul share how the right combination of hardware, automation software, and human expertise is helping Irish healthcare providers get ahead of the Digital for Care 2030 agenda and why the people side of digitisation matters just as much as the technology.

What you'll learn in this episode

>> How Ireland's Digital for Care 2030 strategy is driving urgent demand for healthcare digitisation and why GP practices, hospitals, and primary care providers are all approaching that challenge differently

>> What it takes to run a proof-of-concept scanning pilot inside a regional hospital group, from building a standalone closed-loop network to training staff with no prior scanning experience from scratch

>> Why automation is the difference between a scalable bureau operation and one that constantly struggles and how custom scripting and workflow design make the difference between viable and unviable

>> How FileStream's server-based software handles the complexity of multi-document types, encrypted-at-rest data storage, and real-time quality control and why on-premise solutions still matter in sensitive healthcare environments

>> What the procurement process taught Data Scan about trust, relationships, and why being a specialist, not the biggest player in the room can be the deciding factor in winning complex public sector contracts
