Crystal Swain-Bates is a Children's Book Author and Diversity Publishing Pro, the Author of "Big Hair, Don't Care" & more. Her children’s books have been seen on platforms including CNN and Huffington Post and have been used as props on hit television shows such as BET’s “Being Mary Jane” and “The Game”. Named by the Huffington Post as one of "21 Children's Books Every Black Kid Should Read" and cited by numerous media outlets, including Essence magazine, as a top book emphasizing natural hair and brown girl beauty, my book "Big Hair, Don't Care” is one of Amazon’s most highly reviewed black children’s books on the market.

She created BrownGirlsClub.com, an online store featuring books, T-shirts, party supplies, wall art, and other children's gifts featuring black characters. In addition to writing, she provides book publishing services (Publish with Crystal) to other authors who would like to self-publish but have no idea how to proceed.

Crystal is not an overthinker. She always wanted her idea to be realized and not just a mere thought. She really wanted to be an author at an early age. Her passion for writing finds her time to pursue it along with her full time 9-5 job. She wanted to fill the gap in the market and start things that were not yet in the market. She writes books for black children and published 6 of them in one year. What was supposed to be a side hustle, in the beginning, lead her to various recognitions and opportunities that started to require a lot of her time. She then decided to quit her job as a Cyber Analyst last year to focus her writing career. Crystal worked hard and sacrificed a lot. Currently, she has over 100,000 books sold worldwide and that number is growing continuously. 

Crystal opens up about when & how it all started, what pushed her to publish the books she has written and how she positions herself and her books differently in the market. She speaks on the importance of knowing your unique selling proposition, how she wisely marketed her books, how things were for her as she started her writing career, the point where she decided to quit her job and focus on her writing career and how she feels paving the way for other authors out there.

In addition, she will walk us through the process of writing and publishing a book, some of the things that most failing authors skip on and her advice for people who are always worrying about everything in the process of reaching their goals. Crystal also talks about the amazing recognition and things she received from Amazon that gives her incredible experience and opportunities, and how she helps people who didn’t know how to publish their books.
