The Government of Saint Lucia is investing $1.2 million in a new banana production initiative aimed at increasing the availability of locally grown foods. The initiative brings together agriculture and public health priorities by encouraging healthier dietary choices, supporting local farmers and strengthening national food security. By increasing demand for locally produced bananas, Government is also seeking to promote a more resilient local food system while encouraging greater reliance on nutritious, locally grown foods.
