The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition is encouraging Saint Lucians to rediscover the power of traditional Caribbean foods and adopt healthier lifestyles as part of the observance of Nutrition Awareness Month 2026, celebrated under the theme “Healthy Eating, Active Living: Promoting Caribbean Foods as Medicine.” The Chief Nutritionist in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition has emphasized that many traditional Caribbean foods possess significant nutritional value and can play a critical role in preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers.
