The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs has observed a significant increase in current heat levels across Saint Lucia. With rising temperatures and humidity, the extreme heat can become uncomfortable and pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly. These individuals are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, and the Ministry is urging the public to take necessary precautions to protect their health during this period of intense heat.
The current weather conditions increase the risk of dehydration, which can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, fainting spells, and heat stress. If proper precautions are not taken, heat stroke a life-threatening condition can occur, and in severe cases, this can result in death. The Ministry strongly advises the public to stay hydrated, limit exposure to the sun, and be mindful of the dangers of extreme heat, especially during outdoor activities.
