Domestic Violence is a prevalent issue in the United States, affecting approximately 10 million people yearly. The National Library of Medicine and Nationa Institutes of Health report that one in four women and one in nine men are victims of Domestic Violence. Domestic Violence comes in various forms of abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, economic, stalking, economic abuse and psychological. It can result in deteriorated physical and psychological health, lower quality of life, decreased productivity, and, in some cases, death. Domestic Violence happens to many individuals within the community and in personal relationships. Domestic Violence abuse can cause people to experience low self-esteem, mental illness, and emotional/spiritual effects. Domestic Violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, or sex and occurs at the hands of people who want to control another individual. It has no cultural, socioeconomic, educational, religious, or geographic limitations, and it can occur in individuals with different sexual orientations. If you are experiencing domestic Violence in your life or communities, please report the incident to the proper authority and help keep yourself and others safe.
