Welcome to another episode of the #MeetCoolPeople Podcast! Today, I had a great conversation with Joshua Wathen, the COO of Triad Infosec, a serial entrepreneur, and a former Green Beret. Joshua and I met at the Badass Business Summit in Fort Worth last September and had a short but solid chat. Today’s conversation went in a few directions… From the challenges of cybersecurity to the importance of discipline, and then we landed the ship on the value of genuine relationships in business.

Joshua shared several great lessons from his military background, emphasizing the importance of discipline and accountability in both personal and professional life. We discussed how honesty and the ability to admit mistakes can build stronger relationships with clients, a principle we both firmly believe in. We also talked about the importance of mastering the basics and having core values that truly matter.

Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation:

  • Admitting Mistakes Builds Trust: Being honest about your mistakes can strengthen your client relationships by showcasing transparency and respect.
  • The Role of Discipline in Success: Discipline is crucial for entrepreneurship, whether it’s maintaining a consistent exercise routine or managing daily tasks. It’s about embracing discomfort and staying consistent.
  • Genuine Relationships Over Transactions: Personal connections are often more valuable than technical skills. Building rapport and genuine interactions are key to long-term success.
  • Core Values Are Fundamental: Identify and stick to your true core values like honesty, integrity, and empathy. These should be real values you're willing to stand by, even in challenging situations.

#MeetCoolPeople

We have this amazing technology that keeps us closer than we've ever been yet we're less connected than ever and have become slaves to our technology.

The same technology that was meant to be a tool to help us make life easier and be closer.

The #MeetCoolPeople Movement is to change that.

It's a reminder to put the phone down and pay attention to the people you're with right now.

It's a reminder that social media is there to connect and add value to the people of the world. Use it to Promote what you love, not bash what you don't.

It's a reminder to use that technology to reach out to someone that you can help and be there for them. Find out what they need right now and use your vast network to help make their day better.

It’s a reminder to thank someone for helping you out.

It’s a reminder to introduce someone you meet to someone you know can help them.

And it's a reminder that we can grow to amazing successes but not alone. It requires the help of others.

So surround yourself with people that make you better and make it your mission to #MeetCoolPeople!

Thank you again for helping spread the word and have an amazing day!
