Growing up, I always enjoyed camping and heading into the wilderness. There's something about it which makes people grow and develop their skills. Wilderness leadership is essentially leadership skills which are developed during trying times in the wild. When you are pitted against the elements, there's no doubt that your leadership skills will be put to the test.
My guest in this episode, Shawn Stratton, was once an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) where he took young adults through the backcountry across the world. With this experience, he wrote his book based on the leadership lessons which he took from some of the most difficult situations which he found himself in during his time.
Wilderness Leadership Topics
During our interview we discuss the following topics:
- His background and story
- How he got into the NOLS organization.
- Lessons from the $30,000 blister
- Lessons from Facing Team Destruction in Baja
- Lessons from Climbing the Largest and Coldest Mountain in the World
- How he got into the Leadership consulting business.
