The Sun Came to Millen is an original Canadian fiction story by Heather Calder. The story was written every week starting May 4, 1996, and published exclusively in The Observer.

The story begins with an unwelcome return home to Millen for Jack, who left town some twenty years earlier. While nothing much changes in Millen, his reunion with his family opens up some old wounds.

OFF THE RECORD

OFF THE RECORD by the Observer is looking to take our local story-telling above the fold. Thanks for visiting and taking a listen to our first foray into podcasting ... be nice. We print things, tell stories with letters and ink and we still deliver newspapers the way they are meant to.

To start off, we have to take you back to 1996 when the Observer was a fledgling start-up. Elmira resident, Heather Calder contributed a fictional serial story called The Sun Came to Millen that was published weekly over 40 weeks. We've turned those forty weekly installments into an eight-part serial audiobook to enjoy all over again to honour our twenty-five-year milestone. Parker Merlihan, the author's now 19-year-old son, makes his audio-book debut narrating and producing the episodes.
