Caregivers need caring too!

With Canada's aging society, the demand for caregivers to attend to its populace is undeniably evident. In fact, in the latest statistics provided by Carers Canada, one in four Canadians are carers! The previous government's attempt to lure caregivers from foreign countries like the Philippines, while successful, had its own impact not only to Canadian families but also to the caregivers themselves. This is the very reason why I want to share with you my interview (in mixed language - Tagalog and English) with Antonio Pichon, who came to Canada thru the Live-In Caregiver Program in 2013. Hear his journey and the challenges he had to overcome in order to work in Canada. If you are a caregiver wanting to work in Canada, this interview will really open your eyes to the many possibilities, challenges, and opportunities waiting for you. I don't want to be a spoiler but hey here are some teasers which you will get out of the interview (get your earphones and please listen to it during your free time): a. The Live-In Caregiver program is already closed. Still, there are 2 remaining immigration programs available for caregivers. Please talk to your consultant for more details. b. One way a person can automatically become a Canadian Citizen c. Concept of dual citizenship d. Idea on language requirement for caregivers (and the struggle!) e. The hardship of being a live-in caregiver and the abuses f. For those who are already in Canada as a Live-In Caregiver, what you need to be aware of g. An idea on the salary of a caregiver in the government or in private! h. Options for Live-In caregivers i. some mindset shifts you have to do to succeed in Canada j. ...and did I tell you that this is just part one of the whole interview with Tony! More value stuffs come in the next episode so I encourage you to stay tuned. The interview by the way is also available at Apple iTunes, Google Music or the Stitcher app. Just do a search for "OFW on AIR Podcast with Kuya Tsong" and you'll be led to a collection of interviews with different OFWs since 2015! The OFW on AIR podcast is Kuya Tsong's advocacy to help, guide and inspire Filipinos who are planning, dreaming and pursuing to work abroad. The podcast is FREE for everyone to download! I am glad that finally, Kuya Tsong Canadian Immigration Service Inc. is sponsoring the OFW on AIR podcast for Season 3. The cost to run a website and a podcast is not cheap but we are happy to serve the global community of Filipinos so we can help not just the OFW community but those who are aspiring to be an OFW someday. I hope my readers will likewise support this advocacy by sharing the articles and podcast interviews to their family and friends so they too can help others. There are other interviews in OFW on AIR with OFWs in Canada. We will showcase them in the future so you can be guided with their experiences. Without further ado, here is the interview with Antonio Pichon, an OFW in Canada.
