A Yarn with Gavin:- Part 1

Welcome to Podcast with Paul and a new podcast, A Yarn with Gavin.

Gavin Dyer is Paul's special guest who is the Proprietor at BrownHill Creek Tourist Park and wanted to come and chat with Paul.

Gavin mentioned that he hadn't listened to a podcast before.

Paul asked Gavin why he wanted to do a podcast if he hadn't listened to one before and Gavin explained that he wanted to experience life to its fullest and that his sons have been talking about Joe Rogan and podcasts.

Gavin Dyer is feeling overwhelmed by the speed of the technological advances that have taken place in recent years.

He remembers sending faxes to each other and now fax machines are obsolete.

Gavin reveals his last name is Scottish, stemming from his grandfather Lancelot Kitchener Fraser.

The conversation highlights how quickly technology has advanced, leaving some people feeling left behind.

Paul and Gavin highlight the differences between the more liberated atmosphere of the 70s and the more conservative attitude towards sex and sexuality in today's society.

Paul and Gavin talk about their Australian heritage and backgrounds, with one being from the West Coast and the other from Adelaide.

They also discuss their upbringing, including the clothing and culture of the day, such as rockers, surfies,

Additionally, they discuss their schooling experiences and how Gavin's mother was quite accepting of them sewing his wild oats, as long as there were no oats to come of it.

Finally, they talk about the free atmosphere of the 70s when it came to expressing sexuality, and how that has changed for today's young people.

Gravin reflects on his childhood and how he left school at an early age, but his mother insisted he have a job.

He then describes his first job with Rob Usher, who owned a custom exhaust business. He remembers the address of the business clearly and reflects on how Rob gave him a chance, taught him a lot and was an example of self-employment.

Rob also taught him the importance of taking care of the customer. Gavin notes that, while his father taught him a lot, the difference was that his father worked for someone else whereas Rob was self-employed.

Gavin also talk to Paul about a life-changing car accident that made him realise what is important in life.
