Welcome to the Tech for Good Live podcast. We’re back after a surprise full season break,  and raring to go trying out a whole new podcast format, discussing the good, the bad and the ugly side of tech.

We are talking about how AI might help cheating in exams, but also might help with mental health diagnosis. Sounds like a win win. And we return to our usual segment  “What’s Elon done now!?”

Joining host Bex is producer Paul, Greg Ashton and Tom Passmore.

Our special guest is Alex Nelson, Principal Designer at Hala Systems, who develops cutting edge humanitarian technology for conflict zones, like early warning systems for hospitals and schools in Syria to allow them to evacuate during bombings.

Good story of the week:

AI is having a wild ride right now, excitement over ChatGPT turned to fear of cheating in exams and other misuse and back to exciting new uses for these AI tools including mental health diagnosis:

Listening For Illness: Your Voice May Soon Help Detect Health Problems - Worldcrunch

Kintsugi Named One of Fierce Healthcare’s 2023 ‘Fierce 15’ Companies - Silicon

But it seems some need more caution and common sense in considering how we use AI:

A news site used AI to write articles. It was a journalistic disaster. - Washington Post

Bad news story of the week:

In a continued effort to throw the baby out with the bath water, Twitter gets rid of third party apps, remembers a subscription needs some kind of benefit, and suggests they'll have an ad free version soon (and not because all the advertisers have left):

The third-party apps Twitter just killed made the site what it is today - The Verge

Elon Musk admits Twitter has too many ads, says fix is coming - Tech Crunch

Ugly story of the week:

OpenAI Used Kenyan Workers on Less Than $2 Per Hour to Make ChatGPT Less Toxic - Time
