Dr. Tim Shaw is a philosopher and creator of the Great Philosophical Problems Think Tank. His main focus is on moral injury and how it relates to military veterans.
The fascinating thing about his research is that it's tied to Friedreich Nietzche's work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Likely, you haven't heard of this monumental piece of Western literature but I hope this episode compels you do seek it out. It is the underpinning of our entire modern culture and provides a road map to becoming the "Ubermensch" or superman that transcends God.
From his website:
"Our mission is to provide of a unifying definition, and accompanying phenomenology, for the construct of Moral Injury to address suicide in veteran and wider civilian populations. Like the social lexicons provided by traumatic stress nomenclature, we set out to provide the “Moral Grammar” for what has come to be understood as the “Signature Wound” of contemporary war."
