Hospice agencies frequently offer memorial, or remembrance, services to the families of their patients. It can be a meaningful part of a hospice bereavement program. A memorial service is conducted by the agency, providing a ceremony that honors persons who have died while in the agency’s care. Music, special readings and rituals, and connection with the hospice staff create a special atmosphere that helps families move through their grief. These services can also provide care for the secondary grief of the hospice team. You’ll find guidance for putting together a memorial service in NHPCO’s Hospice Sabbath guide. There are so many themes and activities that can be included in a memorial service. If your hospice agency needs help planning a customized memorial service for your families, send us an email at [email protected]. We’ll consult with you to plan a beautiful celebration of the lives of your patients. And remember - No matter who you are, or where you are in your hospice journey, you are The Heart of Hospice.
