Welcome back to The Marketing Nerdz Podcast!
In this episode of The Marketing Nerdz Podcast, CEO Karan Dharamsi speaks about Standing Out on LinkedIn, as he shares an interesting personal experience he came across on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is known to be one of the largest professional platform for connecting with other professionals from around and promoting your work, business etc. And, as most of you'll would agree, there is an unspoken rule on LinedIn of behaving in a certain manner and being extremely professional. If not, people easily get pissed off! Most of the users on LinkedIn prefer talking about their work life, how they can create synergies with each other and the long list of their professional achievements, but no one prefers showing the real personality which actually helps you in standing out on LinkedIn. And if you do not follow this unspoken rule of behaving in a certain manner on LinkedIn, people will get offended! That's exactly what happened with our CEO... For those who have just started following him on LinkedIn, he posts a lot of personal pictures that come along related stories, learning and posts. And on one of the picture, this person mentioned: "Posting these pictures are inappropriate on LinkedIn, it's not Facebook!" Clearly this person is someone who could not see something so drastic and different on LinkedIn. But again, here's the marketing perspective for posting these pictures with related text: One of the most certain thing that happened with this post is that it stood out from all the other professional clutter! And as a great Marketer, it is extremely important to stand out, get noticed, get the attention of the audience and get them talking about/to you. Your Target Audience should be clearly be able to look at you and identify you different from others. The whole point of adding more personal pictures with related stories, learnings is to get attention and stand out from the crowd. Professional banners, Corporate achievements, Synergies is what everyone is doing on LinkedIn anyways. If you too follow that, you will hardly be noticed, you will just be another someone in the crowd doing the same thing as others. The attention you get using this pattern will be minimal. But, by doing something different like this example shared above, you will absolutely get attention. That's the bottom line! Standing out should not be taken as offensive, it should be compulsory. People have been thought to not throw out our personalities, which eventually kills our companies because there is no point to differentiate you form the 100's of others in your industry. If you follow that, you would not be true to yourself and there will be nothing to differentiate you from the others. That's absolutely not how you win in life! #1 rule n marketing is to stand out and get noticed.Good attention or Bad attention, both are necessary to sustain and have people talk about you, remember you and be connected to you. So, here's whats the outcome of this podcast episode: It's not just about standing out on LinkedIn or the business world, but also standing out as as person in real life! People will have their set of reactions for everything you do, but as long as you are getting attention and people are able to differentiate you from the crowd, you are doing a great job. Don't follow the world, stand out, do things your way and win! More podcast episodes sharing real life experiences with marketing lessons will coming next, stay tuned!
