We've always been told to beware of strangers...but it turns out that talking to strangers is a proven way to make us happier and healthier.

In this life-affirming conversation, I chat with veteran journalist Joe Keohane, author of the brilliant new book "The Power of Strangers: The Benefits of Connecting in a Suspicious World".

At a time when many of us are retreating into our phone screens and human beings are becoming more detached from each other, Joe's message is more important than ever. Loneliness has been described as "one of the greatest public health challenges of our time" (in the words of Tracey Crouch, the first UK government-appointed minister for loneliness).

You'll hear Joe explaining what we have to gain by starting up a conversation with a stranger - and practical, joyful, simple ways to connect with others. Even if you don't feel confident of your social skills, this conversation will leave you empowered to connect with others in a way that makes you feel good about yourself.
