On Episode 125 of You, Me, Empathy, therapist and New York Times bestselling author, Lori Gottlieb and I explore having compassion and empathy for ourselves first, operating out of fear or love, society not accepting vulnerability in men, compassion without forgiveness, Lori’s amazing book, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, and how we grow in connection with others.

In this shorter episode, Lori and I get right to it and talk about her New York Times bestseller, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. We talk about how you can’t grow without having compassion for yourself, feeling alone in our experiences, and why the book doesn’t necessarily mean we should all go to therapy; it means we should talk more with each other.

We also gab about fear and love, control, men and their feelings, cultural norms we internalize then allow to seep into our interpersonal relationships, listening as part of empathy, and why you don’t need to forgive a person to have compassion for them. Plus, look out for Maybe You Should Talk to Someone as a tv show! And a new podcast coming soon from Lori!

Thanks to Lori for sharing her story!

P.S. This chat was recorded pre-Coronavirus.

P.P.S. these show notes will soon live at FeelyHuman.co, which is also where you should sign up for the newsletter. The Feely Human Collective is coming soon!

You, Me, Empathy

You, Me, Empathy is the official podcast of The Feely Human Collective. Join the community at FeelyHuman.co/membership.

On this show, we explore the struggles, the triumphs, the brights and the darks we face as humans trying to be human on this wondrous and overwhelming pale blue dot.

You, Me, Empathy was created so that we can be witness to our collective humanity through the lens of empathy, vulnerability, and emotional curiosity. We aim to destigmatize mental health, lead fiercely with our hearts, feel our feelings without shame and judgment, and share our courageous stories so that others may feel less alone and more connected as feely humans.

You, Me, Empathy is a brave place designed to inspire the beauty in each of us, because each of us, in all of our kaleidoscopic parts, makes up a magical whole that deserves to be seen.

Created and hosted by Nōn Wels (he/him), feely human, writer, and doggo lover.
