Taryn Chambers Givan is a native of Texarkana, Texas and credits a loving and nurturing family for instilling “old school values”. She is a graduate of Liberty - Eylau High School, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from The University of Central Arkansas, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Principal Certification from Stephen F. Austin University. Taryn has 19 years in the K-12 setting as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal and has worked as an Adjunct Professor. She has now started her 20th year as the Founder & CEO of Divergent Educational Consulting, LLC as an Independent Educational Consultant and Instructional Coach with Better Lesson. Taryn’s educational honors and awards include: 2020 Tribute to African-American Women Award, 2020 MODEL Award, 2020 Martin Luther King,Jr .Acts of Kindness Education Award, 2017 A.E. Alton & Mott Mosley Excellence in Education Award, 2018 Outstanding Professional Learning Award, 2016 Woman of Distinction Education Award, 2015 Freedom Writers Institute Teacher, October 2008 LEISD Employee of the Month, and the 2003-2004 LEISD C.K. Bender Elementary Teacher of the Year Taryn aspires to one day obtain a doctorate degree, be the author of a best-selling novel and teach on the collegiate level full-time to train future educators. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., enjoys reading, writing, listening to music, dancing, traveling, and shopping. One of her greatest accomplishments is being a mother to her beautiful 19 year-old, Endyia Wells. She is the blessed wife of Antonio Givan and bonus mom to Breylon Jordan and Ashton Givan. Her motivation each day stems from Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
