Have you ever known someone at a distance but recognize that you’re really living somewhat parallel yet different lives with a lot of intersecting places to them? Well this is one of those conversations…almost 30 years in the making.

As a punk rock teenager, this week's guest preached anthems from the stage about positive thinking and a clean straight edge lifestyle. Ragunath Kappo, Ray as he was called in 1985 was the lead singer of the Connecticut based punk hard-core band Youth of Today; which quickly became one of the most well-known bands in the New York hardcore scene.

Growing up in nearby Rhode Island I used to see them play live at our local clubs often.. His music was a real rebel cry. An invitation to consider the limitations of both an unjust system and those of my one mind. A call to consider my thoughts, to have an opinion and to stand for something. It was an incredible window of time in my life. 30 years later Raghunath is still playing a role in my life..

Listen in as we talk about his evolution from punk rock all star to monk-true story- to the Bhakti yoga teacher of teachers and father of 5 that he is today. He owns and runs a yoga retreat center called Supersoul Farm in the Hudson River Valley of New York and is the co-host of the Wisdom of the Sages podcast where shares truths about life from the timeless wisdom of the Bhakti-yoga tradition.

Ragunath teaches how to create more love and connection in your life through service as his tradition of Bhakti Yoga taught him. Bhakti is the beautiful and natural practice of taking the ego-self out of the center and placing the divine at the center.

Here are some things you’ll discover in this episode:

  • Learn why service instead of selfishness is the path to a more satisfying life.
  • See how shifting our actions and consciousness away from self-absorption and towards unity-in-diversity, we can begin to see the spark of divinity in all living beings.
  • Hear why singing is a simple yet powerful tool for spiritual liberation
  • What it means to live with devotion to a higher power at the center of your life at the center of your day
  • Practices, rituals and grounding principles to do so we are not trapped in the illusion of the chaos but can feel more present to our lives.
  • and more…
